Dealing A Winning Hand: Why House of Cards is the Margaret River Ultimate Gem

Neal McMahonAustralia, Magaret River, Western Australia, Wineries

I first discovered House of Cards in October 2014, when they had only a vintage or two under their belt. It was clear then this boutique winery was destined for greatness. Nestled in the heart of Margaret River, House of Cards is a gem that blends passion, artistry, and dedication to producing exceptional wines.

From my first visit, what stood out was not just the quality of the wine but the evident care and attention to detail in every bottle. The winery’s commitment to single-vineyard, organically farmed grapes allows their wines to capture the true essence of the Margaret River terroir. Each sip tells a story of precision, creativity, and boldness.

Their philosophy of “playing your hand” with integrity is reflected in the richness and character of their wines. Over the years, House of Cards has evolved, but it has never lost the boutique charm and personal touch that first captivated me. Their Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay, in particular, are consistently standouts, showcasing the balance and depth for which the region is renowned.

The Cellar Door Experience is just as warm and genuine as ever. Whether you’re having a friendly chat with the down-to-earth team (Shout out to our host “Bear”) or appreciating the fun, creative branding, My visit felt like catching up with old friends. I love that there’s no flashy corporate polish here—just a passionate crew who truly love what they do and care about sharing it with you.

House of Cards has firmly established itself as one of my all-time favorite wineries. Watching them grow over the past decade has been a joy, and their fine wines are why I fell in love with them back in 2014. If you’re a wine lover looking for authentic, beautifully crafted Margaret River wines, this is a must-visit.

Cheers to many more years of stellar vintages!
