Our recent high‑end bourbon tasting was a celebration of American whiskey craftsmanship, bringing together a dynamic range of styles from sweet corn expressions to bold rye spice, all showcasing the depth, tradition, and innovation behind this storied spirit.

We began with Balcones Baby Blue, a rich Texas corn whisky with creamy roasted notes and nostalgic sweetness. We followed it with Maker’s Mark 46, a wheated bourbon layered with soft vanilla and baking spice. Next came American Brick, a complex four grain bourbon offering toffee, oak, and spice in perfect balance. Then, Bulleit 95 Ryedelivered its signature peppery kick, pleasing fans of a drier, spicier finish.
However, the real show‑stoppers of the evening were two ultra‑special pours: Kentucky Owl Bourbon and the exceptionally rare 2019 Shenk’s Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey, the latter fetching around $400 per bottle on the collector‑market and instantly becoming the hit of the party. Their deep, layered profiles and sheer rarity brought head‑turning excitement to the tasting.
A thoughtfully curated charcuterie board elevated the entire experience aged cheddar, smoked gouda, triple‑cream brie, smoked turkey, dark chocolate, candied nuts, and more all thoughtfully chosen to complement each whiskey’s unique profile.
In short: an evening of bold sips, big flavors, rare bottles, and even better company. Here’s to good whiskey and great friends until the next tasting!
